Cold Lake Anthology is BACK!
Submissions are closed. Start preparing your piece for the 2027 edition.
We know what you’re thinking. BACK? We haven’t finished the 2026 edition. How can it be back? We’re glad you asked.
Last month, we had a CLA meeting to draw out our map on how to finish the edition and some questions from members came up. Can we submit flash fiction? Of course you can. Can we submit a section of a longer piece, say a novel, if it’s standalone? Sure. How long has CLA been published? Since 2013, but it was called Best of Burlington Writers Workshop until 2018. Why are poetry numbers down? Probably because Poetry Path ran at the same time. Why can’t I submit to 2 categories? Um…
A lively conversation ensued about these and a few other questions. The team sat back and came up with a new plan, after all, we want members to know they’ve been heard. So we’re opening up submissions for the month of June so you can submit flash fiction, haiku, haibun poems, standalone works from large pieces, if they missed the deadline the first time around, and for the first time – as a trial – we’re going to allow people to submit in 2 different categories.
That’s right. It can be fiction and creative nonfiction OR fiction and poetry OR creative nonfiction and poetry. Your choice, but it has to be in two DIFFERENT categories. We don’t know if we will do this ever again, so take advantage of it. If you think you submitted already and aren’t sure what you submitted, drop us a note and we’ll look it up. We’ll even lax the rules on active members. You still must be a member, but if you haven’t been to a workshop or event in a while, we’ll still let you submit in 2 categories. So be sure to get the word out to all your BWW friends you haven’t seen in a while.
And yes, we’ll open up cover art submissions too, because maybe this new creativity will spark a new idea for the cover as well.
Your assignment: You have until June 30th at midnight to submit 2 of your best pieces to CLA.
