New Events Calendar & Website Look part 1

By now most of you have heard the rumor that we are changing how to sign up for workshops and events. Well, it’s true. For the last couple of months, our IT team has been creating us a new Event Calendar, that will hopefully be easier and cleaner for members, hosts, and admin alike. 

Why? Well when we started with our current system, not everyone loved it. Which in an organization is to be expected. But there were some issues with it, and it was difficult for members who are less tech comfortable. 

Since then, things have gotten worse. Many of you are now receiving multiple email messages of the same message – sometimes a 100 copies. Workshops have been deleted, settings are changed with no warning, and hosts haven’t been able to get into to the system. It’s been a moment. 

We acknowledge that the new Event Calendar will not be loved by all. It can’t be helped. But hopefully, it will make things easier and worth the change over. 

We are not quite ready to launch it. But for those of you who don’t like change, consider this your warning – change is coming. For those of you who are done with the current system, please give us a little more time to get it right, but change is coming.  

With changing to the Events Calendar, we need to make changes to our website. Partly because of how the Events Calendar works and partly to update the website. Now these changes will be happening in at least two steps. First changes will be made so members will be able to RSVP to our free workshops and other events. The second set of changes will be in how the website looks and functions. We want to streamline it and make it easier to use and find what you are looking for.

Right now our hosts, some of our committees, and our Leadership Team are in conversations and gathering ideas. Soon that will go to a mock up website for all of them to give feedback. Changes will be made, another mock up, etc, until we get a consensus.

Some of the things we want to change: making the calendar easier to find, making signing in easier to find, promoting our community and our resources, streamlining it so it’s less cluttered. And most of all, promoting that we are a community, not just a bunch of classes.
