The Path is OPEN!

The water is gone and they are ready for us to return!
Back in the Intervale – The all-new Poetry Path 2024!

Tucked between branches, peeking from behind a trailing vine or boldly displayed on the trunk of an ancient maple, this year’s poetry panels are again bringing a touch of gentle whimsy to a popular Burlington natural area.

Fourteen bite-size poems were selected from entries submitted by Burlington Writers Workshop members. The winners were transcribed onto simple black panels with a few strokes of white pen, then installed along a wooded portion of the Calkins Trail in Burlington’s Intervale, conveniently located just one mile from the city’s downtown.

Poetry Path ’24 was created by writer-volunteers, with a generous welcome from the Intervale Center. This year’s theme is Roots, resonating with with the Center’s mission to respect the wild, sustain the land, and nourish the people.    

Unlike similar “story walks” in the Burlington area, this path integrates the poetry panels into the trees that support them. Look up as you stroll and enjoy!

DIRECTIONS:

– Take Riverside Avenue to Intervale Road

– Go past Gardeners Supply on Right, continue past the Intervale Center, past the first ‘Visitor Parking’ space (marked by a sign). Park in the second ‘Visitor Parking’ space (marked by a sign).

– A short distance past the parking you’ll see a large sign: WELCOME TO THE INTERVALE CENTER. From there you’ll walk a short distance to the far end of a field. The wooded Calkins trail begins just beyond. 

NB:  This season’s downpours are a boon to mosquitoes – bring repellent and don’t be afraid to use it!
